Pakistan beat Cambodia to win first ever FIFA World Cup Qualifier

Pakistan's Haroon Hamid scored the only goal of the match against Cambodia in the 69th minute of the second half.

Islamabad (October 17, 2023) Pakistan defeated Cambodia by one zero in the FIFA World Cup qualifying match. On behalf of Pakistan, Haroon Hamid scored the only goal of the match against Cambodia in the second half in the 69th minute.

Earlier, the first leg of the tie between the two teams in Cambodia ended goalless.
Star forward Otis Khan also missed the second round as he did not get clearance from FIFA. It may be noted that Otis Khan was barred from participating in the first round by the sport's governing body FIFA, which disqualified him despite holding a Pakistani passport.
Otis Khan made his debut for Pakistan in a friendly against Mauritius last June.

His qualification was based on his grandfather Kunwar Jameel Muhammad Khan who was born in Delhi but later moved to Pakistan after partition in 1947 and later settled in Manchester. Before today, Pakistan last hosted a FIFA/AFC World Cup qualifier in 2011 when Bangladesh played at the Punjab Stadium. Pakistan will now face Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Tajikistan in Group G in the second round of the qualifiers.
